Well, first of all you should know that I had acne when I was a teenager. In my twenties I finally got rid of it (one of the perks of getting older) but I still had to battle pimples every now and then until recently. Now at 23 I can finally declare myself pimple-free (hell yeah!)
A few months ago I came across an article from Allure magazine that explained the consequences that foaming gels have on your skin and that sometimes they can actually be counterproductive, irritating your skin and creating pimples. This happens because of an ingredient called sodium laureth sulfate, which creates the foam in many cleansers.
After reading the article I rushed to get my gel cleanser to read the ingredients list and saw that it contained sodium laureth sulfate.
I decided to do an experiment and stop using the cleanser to see my skin’s reaction. I can assure you that my skin got better and I didn’t do any drastic changes in any other aspects of my life that could have caused the change. I have mixed skin (as I said in a previous post) so it still needs to get cleaned to prevent blackheads and pimples. What I do now is use micellar water every day, and exfoliate and use a face mask once a week.
The fact that this worked for me doesn’t mean that it will work for everyone else, because different skins react different to some treatments, but if you are sick of your pimples and use a foaming cleanser, you might want to go and check out the ingredients and then decide if you want to change your cleansing method or not.
